AN INTERVIEW WITH 'ARCHIVE SHOP'
서촌의 한 골목, 입구에 강렬한 붉은 박스가 쌓여있는 이곳은 지난 9월 오픈한 샵아모멘토의 “아카이브샵”이다. 이름에서도 알 수 있듯이 기본적으로 이곳은 몰리 고다드, 블레스 등 샵아모멘토 셀렉 브랜드의 상품 중 지난 시즌 상품을 재조명해 보여주고, 합리적인 가격에 만나볼 수 있는 곳이다. 쌓여있는 브랜드의 포장 박스들과 포장지들이 무언가 말을 건네는 것만 같은 이 미지의 공간에 대해 보다 더 자세히 알아보기 위해 아카이브샵 매니저 백하연님과의 인터뷰를 진행해 보았다.
In a narrow alley in Seochon, a vibrant red box piled up at the entrance marks the location of the "Archive Shop" by Shop Amomento, which opened in September. As the name suggests, this place highlights past-season items from Shop Amomento's select brands such as Molly Goddard, Bless, and others. It is a place where you can rediscover and encounter these products at reasonable prices.
Now, imagine this place filled with stacks of brand boxes and wrapping paper. It's like they're trying to tell you something. To figure out more about this mysterious space, I conducted an interview with Baek Ha-yeon, manager of Archive Shop.
Q. 아카이브샵에 대해 아직 생소한 분들이 많을 텐데, 아카이브 샵에 대해 간단하게 인사하는 내용 부탁드립니다.
For those who might still be unfamiliar with the Archive Shop, could you please give a brief introduction to what the Archive Shop is all about?
HAYEON : 쉽게 이야기하자면, 샵아모멘토에서 지속가능성과 관련하여 다양한 기획을 전개하는 새로운 형식의 아웃렛 매장이라고 할 수 있을 것 같아요. 단순 할인 매장으로 그치지 않고, 샵아모멘토의 가치에 공감하는 브랜드들과의 협업을 진행하는 공간입니다. 빠른 트렌드의 전환으로 모든 것들이 쉽게 만들어지고 버려지는 요즘 시대에 각각의 제품들이 존재와 가치를 다시 재부여받는 공간이라고 말씀드릴 수 있겠습니다.
In simple words, this is a fresh take on an outlet store at Shop Amomento, where a variety of sustainability-driven initiatives are explored. It's not just your typical discount store; rather, it's a space that collaborates with brands sharing Shop Amomento's values. In a fast-paced era where everything is quickly produced and discarded due to changing trends, it's a place where each product is given a renewed sense of presence and value.
Q. 기타 아웃렛 등과 비교되는 점이 있다면?
What aspects do you think distinguish the 'Archive Shop' from other outlets?
HAYEON : 첫 번째는 샵아모멘토의 감성으로 셀렉된 제품을 할인된 가격으로 만나 볼 수 있다는 점입니다.
The first is the opportunity to discover products selected with Shop Amomento's sensibility at discounted prices.
HAYEON :그리고 두 번째는 재미있는 공간 요소들입니다. 저희 매장의 모든 기물은 다른 곳에서 이미 쓰임을 하고 남겨졌거나, 주인을 잃은 중고 가구들로 이루어져 있어요. 그런 것들이 모여 이질적이면도 묘하게 조화를 이루고 있는 모습이 저희 매장에 재미를 더해주는 거 같아요.
또 누군가에게 사용된 사물이 가지는 따뜻함이 있다고 생각해요. 가죽에 남겨진 얼룩, 장식장에 긁힌 자국 같은 데서 오는 사람 냄새 같은… 그래서 그런지 저희 매장을 방문하시는 고객분들이 공간에서 알게 모르게 편안함이 느껴진다고 하시더라고요. 그게 저희 아카이브샵이 다른 매장들과 다른 매력이 아닐까 생각합니다.
And the second is the interesting spatial elements. All the furnishings in our store are made up of used items that were left behind or lost by their previous owners, mainly consisting of second-hand furniture. The eclectic yet oddly harmonious arrangement of these items adds an extra layer of fun to our store. There's a certain warmth in objects that have been used by someone else.
Like the stains on leather or the scratches on a decorative shelf, they carry the scent of the previous owner. Perhaps that's why some of our customers, even without realizing it, feel a sense of comfort in our space. We believe this aspect sets our Archive Shop apart from other stores.
세번째는 아카이브샵만의 패키징입니다. 조금 구겨져 못 쓰게 된 TAG에 도장을 찍어 재사용한다거나, 불필요한 포장을 줄이는 등… 저희는 패키지를 새롭게 제작하기보다는 최대한 원래 가지고 있는 것들에게 그 쓰임을 찾아 주려고 노력하고 있어요.
Lastly, Instead of creating new packaging, we've made an effort to find purpose in the items we already have. For example, stamping reused tags that got a bit wrinkled or minimizing unnecessary packaging.

Q. 아카이브샵에서는 지속가능성과 관련한 다양한 기획을 여러 브랜드와 함께 진행하고 있다고 하셨는데, 몇가지 소개해주실 수 있으실까요?
You mentioned that various initiatives related to sustainability are available. Could you introduce some of them?
아카이브샵은 샵아모멘토가 추구하는 재생산, 지속가능한 가치에 공감하는 브랜드들과 함께 관심에서 멀어지고 있던 아이템들에 새로운 가치를 더하는 뜻깊은 협업을 해오고 있습니다. 그 예로, 지난 12월 8일에는 SEHIKYO라는 국내 브랜드에서 빈티지 의류를 핸드메이드 니트를 활용하여 업사이클링한 아이템들을 만나볼 수 있는 팝업스토어를 진행했으며,
12월 15일에는 OSAKI라는 국내 빈티지 셀렉 샵에서 꼼데가르송, 요지 야마모토 등의 90년대-2000년대 FW 시즌 아이템들을 만나볼 수 있는 빈티지 팝업 스토어를 진행하며 오래된 것들의 재발견에서부터 오는 새로운 가치를 전달하고자 했습니다. 또한 BIRROT이나 Baserange 등의 다양한 브랜드 아카이브 세일 역시 아카이브샵에서 꾸준히 만나볼 수 있습니다!
Archive Shop has been collaborating with brands that share the values of regeneration and sustainability pursued by Shop Amomento, adding new value to items that were previously overlooked. As an example, on December 8th, they hosted a pop-up store featuring items from the domestic brand SEHIKYO, which upcycled vintage clothing using handmade knitwear. On December 15th,
another pop-up store was organized in collaboration with the domestic vintage select shop OSAKI, showcasing vintage items from the 90s to the 2000s FW seasons, including brands like Comme des Garçons and Yohji Yamamoto. The goal was to convey new value from the rediscovery of old items. Also, Archive Shop consistently offers various brand archive sales, including those of BIRROT and Baserange.
그리고 다가오는 1월 6일부터는 양일간 샵아모멘토의 리퍼브 세일이 진행될 예정입니다. 이번 리퍼브 세일에서는 정상적인 사용이 가능한 상품들이 쉽게 버려지지 않고 각자의 쓰임을 찾기를 바라는 마음으로 스크래치, 오염, 매장 디스플레이 상품 등 사용과 기능에 문제가 없는 샵아모멘토의 상품들을 모아 세일을 진행합니다. 합리적인 가격으로 샵아모멘토의 감각적인 아이템들을 소장할 수 있는 기회인만큼 여러분들의 많은 관심 부탁드립니다!
Looking ahead, from January 6th, a two-day refurbishment sale from Shop Amomento is scheduled. In this refurb-sale, items with no functional issues, but with scratches, stains, or those used for store displays, will be offered. The hope is that these items find new purposes rather than being easily discarded. Your attention and interest in this upcoming sale are greatly appreciated.

In closing, is there a message you'd like to share with those who plan to visit?
HAYEON: 저는 아카이브샵이 서촌의 사랑방 같은 느낌이었으면 해요. 서촌에 오면 그냥 큰 이유 없이 항상 들리고 싶은 편안한 공간이요. 공간 자체도 격식 있고 딱딱한 분위기보다는 자유롭고 아기자기한 요소가 많아 구경하는 재미도 있을 거예요. 고객분들이 숨은 보물들을 발견할 수 있다는 설렘을 가지고 언제든지 방문해 주셨으면 좋겠어요.
I hope the Archive Shop feels like a cozy haven in Seochon. A place you'd want to drop by whenever you're in the neighborhood, even if there's no specific reason.
